This Orange Ginger Smoothie combines fresh orange, Greek yogurt, chia seeds, almond milk, ginger, and cinnamon for a delicious no-added-sugar smoothie. This smoothie contains protein and fiber, making it a satisfying breakfast or snack.

  • ½ medium orange, peeled and segmented
  • ½ cup unsweetened Greek yogurt
  • ¼ cup unsweetened almond milk
  • 1 tbsp chia seeds
  • ½–1 tsp freshly grated ginger
  • ½ tsp vanilla extract
  • ¼ tsp ground cinnamon
  • Optional: ½–1 tsp monk fruit or stevia, if additional sweetness is desired

Step 1:  Preparing the orange

Peel the orange and remove any seeds. Keep some of the pulp for extra fiber.

Step 2: Add ingredients

Place the orange, Greek yogurt, almond milk, chia seeds, ginger, vanilla, cinnamon, and ice into a blender.

Step 3: Adding the cherries & fiber

Add the pitted cherries and chia seeds, followed by vanilla and cinnamon.

Step 4 : Blending

Blend on high for 30–45 seconds until smooth and creamy.

Step 5 : Tasting

Taste the smoothie. Add a small amount of monk fruit or stevia only if needed.

Step 6 : Serving

Pour into a glass and serve immediately. For extra freshness, garnish with a small orange slice and a little grated ginger.

  • Orange: Whole oranges have a relatively low GI and provide fiber, making them preferable to orange juice.
  • Greek yogurt: Adds protein and helps make the smoothie more filling.
  • Chia seeds: Provide fiber and healthy fats, which can help slow carbohydrate digestion.
  • Avoid orange juice: Using juice instead of whole orange substantially reduces the fiber content and can make it easier to consume more rapidly.

  • Keep the serving to one small glass (about 250–300 ml).
  • Use ½ orange rather than several oranges to keep the carbohydrate load moderate.
  • Choose plain, unsweetened Greek yogurt rather than flavored yogurt.
  • If having this as a breakfast, consider pairing it with a small serving of eggs, nuts, or another protein source if you need greater satiety.
