Baked Cinnamon Apples (No Added Sugar)

Spread the love

Warm, naturally sweet, and comforting—this simple baked apple dish feels like dessert but fits perfectly into a healthy, low-sugar lifestyle. The natural sugars in apples caramelize beautifully with cinnamon, creating a cozy treat without any added sugar.

  • 3 medium apples (Fuji, Honeycrisp, or Gala work best)
  • 1 tsp ground cinnamon
  • ¼ tsp nutmeg (optional)
  • ½ tsp vanilla extract
  • 1 tbsp lemon juice
  • 2–3 tbsp water
  • Optional toppings: chopped nuts (almonds/walnuts), unsweetened yogurt

Step 1: Preheat oven

Set your oven to 180°C (350°F).

Step 2: Prepare the apples

Wash, core, and slice apples into wedges or chunks (keep the skin on for fiber).

Step 3: Mix flavors

In a bowl, toss apples with cinnamon, nutmeg, vanilla extract, and lemon juice.

Step 4 : Arrange for baking

Place the apples in a baking dish and add 2–3 tablespoons of water to prevent sticking.

Step 5: Bake

Cover with foil and bake for 20 minutes.
Remove foil and bake another 10–15 minutes until apples are tender and slightly caramelized.

Step 6: Serve warm

Enjoy as-is or top with nuts or a spoon of yogurt.

  • Best enjoyed as a dessert or mid-meal snack, not alongside high-carb meals
  • If managing blood sugar, avoid overeating—even natural sugars add up

  • Use naturally sweet apple varieties to avoid needing sweeteners
  • Add a pinch of clove or cardamom for extra depth
  • For crunch, sprinkle crushed nuts after baking instead of before
